Each holiday season, the Wellsboro Area Chamber
of Commerce (WACC) sponsors the “Twelve Days of Christmas Gift Giveaway Program” to
support our member retailers. Over a twelve day period beginning
in early December (dates vary each year and are announced in
the Fall), shoppers at participating merchants may complete an
Entry Form to win a variety of gifts donated by those merchants.
Those gifts are then awarded in daily random drawings, concluding
with the announcement of “Grand Prize” winners on
the twelfth day.
While the program is viewed positively by shoppers, it also provides
a great source of advertising for the participating merchants.
The program continues to grow each year, with 30 participating
merchants in 2005 providing more than 110 gifts valued at almost
$2,000.
The criteria for the program are as follows:
- Participating merchants must be current members of
the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce.
- In order to participate, each retail establishment
store contributes a fixed rate to offset printing and advertising
costs,
as well as a minimum of one $25 gift certificate (in any domination,
but totaling not less than $25). The fixed rate is announced
each Fall.
- The program is advertised widely beginning in mid-November
including prime air spots on WETM Channel 18 television, the
Wellsboro Gazette (both newspaper and website), WNBT radio and
KC101 radio.
- Shoppers complete entry forms located at each of the
participating merchants. Each merchant dedicates space for the
entry forms and
a container of their choice for the completed forms, such as
a counter or table.
- WACC volunteers pick up the completed entry forms on
a regular basis.
- Drawings are held daily by WACC staff for a twelve-day
period beginning early December, excluding Saturdays and Sundays.
The number of daily prizes awarded is dependent upon the number
of gift certificates provided by merchants. The program concludes
with a drawing for the Grand Prize on the twelfth day.
- All WACC retailers are provided a packet of information
in November which includes an entry form and the fixed rate
for participating for that year.
