Wellsboro Plein Air Festival

Celebrate the intersection of nature and creativity in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds! We invite artists and art enthusiasts alike to the scenic town of Wellsboro for a weekend dedicated to the tradition of plein air (outdoor) painting.

This unique, family-friendly event supports a scholarship for a local art student, making every brushstroke a contribution to the future of our local arts community.

Event Highlights

• For Visitors & The Community:
  • Watch Live Art: Follow artists as they set up their easels throughout the area to capture the beautiful local scenery in real-time.
  • Exhibition & Shopping: View a stunning display of regional talent at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center.
  • Eat, Sip, & Shop: Enjoy the charm of Wellsboro with great food, local shopping, and a festive atmosphere.
  • Take Art Home: Purchase original paintings created during the competition!
• For Plein Air Artists:
  • Compete for Prizes: 12 artists will win up to $500!
  • Exclusive Programming: Includes a Friday reception with a guest speaker, dedicated "Golden Hour" painting sessions on Friday and Saturday, and four distinct timeslots to capture the light.
  • Showcase Your Work: Opportunities to sell and display your completed pieces.

• When: Held annually during the second weekend of September.
• Primary Venue: Gmeiner Arts & Cultural Center 134 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA
• Itinerary:
  • Friday: Reception, Speaker, and Golden Hour painting.
  • Saturday: Full day of painting and Golden Hour session.
  • Sunday: Awards Ceremony and celebration.
